Grand Canyon Village Hotels & Motels
The Grand Canyon in Arizona, considered one of the top natural wonders of the world, is surely on many personal bucket lists. The canyon itself is huge, dramatic and somewhat daunting. Standing on either the north or south rim, it is impossible to see all the way down to the canyon floor, which gives the canyon a mysterious feel and captivates the imagination.
Those who visit the area and wish to stay close to this beautiful and enigmatic sight can do so within the Grand Canyon Village, which lies inside the Grand Canyon National Park boundary on the south rim. There are a handful of lodges that offer most of the accommodation choice here, as well as one hotel option. Most of the properties in Grand Canyon Village are rustic in feel but are the closest place to stay near the Grand Canyon. For alternative choices, there are mid-range internationally recognized chain hotels and independent options located just outside the park in Tusayan.
STAYING IN THE VILLAGE
After a day of peering into the canyon or even walking part-way into its depths perhaps along Bright Angel Trail, visitors can choose from accommodation options that offer lodging with a bit of history, such as El Tovar Hotel, which dates from 1905. Built in the 1930s, the Bright Angel Lodge offers treats like an old-fashioned ice cream fountain. Both properties are registered National Historic Landmarks.
The slightly more budget-oriented option of Maswik Lodge provides cabins and rooms that are just a short quarter of a mile from the canyon edge, while the Kachina Lodge has some rooms with views of the canyon.
Those looking for something more modern may be interested in an independent mid-range option like the Grand Hotel, which is located just outside the park in Tusayan. Amenities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, hot tub, business center, exercise rooms and salon services are available at some of the chain hotels in the Tusayan area.
